Reading #4 questions

1. on page 7 the Critical Art Ensemble states that interventionist media is more of a disturbance than a work of art. does this critical view alienate the right to free speech and to express our own opinions? or do you agree with the fact that some interventionist content can be disturbing or vulgar? 2. "Tactical gizmologists" are said to be fuelled by the sense of DIY, do you think that a tactical media artist feels a sense of protection through the internet that he or she would not be able to have in the open public?

Interventionist Media

For this assignment I chose to make my own version of the Victoria's Secret website. Often the media falsifies what a real woman should look like, and causes many women to feel self conscious about their image and strive to be something they are not. Victoria secret has many pictures on their page depicting a body shape that is not common.

My piece I choose "The Lonely Chicken Dream" by Zoe Beloff to interpret as my own video. I loved how casual the footage and dialogue is during her piece, and how the film jumps around to various subjects. I used the casual feel of Beloff's work as my inspiration. I began filming my friends and family going about their everyday lives and having fun. The tone of my piece reflects the happy, carefree, and wacky feel of Beloff's work. I also played around with various filters and effects to put my own personal touch on this piece. I had a lot of fun creating this assignment!

When we decided on the theme of "Steam Punk Time Travel," I was very interested to see where this creation went. There are so many possibilities and directions to take this theme. I choose images such as butterflies, clocks, space, and smoke stacks to represent the technological aspect of time travel and steampunk. The butterflies are one of the biggest representations of this theme for me because they change just as time does. I have them flying through all three frames to bring them together. I had a lot of fun creating this and learned a lot while doing it!
